The core of teaching skills

During a nice and intense seminar in Greece, each partners had the opportunity to exchange the teaching practices, that he has observed in relation with the different items. These items could be considered as teaching constants or teaching regularities within the training practices...

After collecting these practices, each partner selected several significant practices in each country in order to share them with the other partners.. These collection of practices were analysed and grouped in categories in order to become a tank of teaching practices for the following of the project.

Thanks to this work, a core of teaching skills emerged as the list of items and categories :

E1 : Support motivation and commitment to the training

1. Taking care and recognizing the individual

2. Making sense between the learner's project and the training

3. Making sense by securing the training paths, by encouraging and valorizing

E2: Organize and manage the dynamic of the group

1. Capturing the attention of learners and creating emulation

2. Facilitating speaking within the group

3. Organizing and regulating the group work : interaction, rhythms, production, synthesis

4. Organizing the life of the group

E3 : Prevent and manage attitudes and behaviours

1. Adopting of an ethical or exemplary posture

2. Facilitating acceptance of the rules of the institution and group

3. Regulating inappropriate behavior

E4: Take into account each individual

1. Evaluating needs, project, potential and global situation of learners to support them

2. Adapting activities to the rhythm and level to small groups or individuals

3. Using representations, experience and potentials of learners within the training

E5: Prepare and organize training activities

1. Preparing the activities according to rules and information on learners

2. Preparing the use of methods and tools to fit the needs of various learners

3. Preparing the work space to facilitate learning

E6:Support learning activities (training techniques)

1. Diagnosing and evaluate trainees to support their learnings

2. Linking learner's previous knowledge to the training inputs (Weaving function)

3. Using techniques and tools to improve learning, memorizing, information processing (cognitive and psychological support)

E7: Evaluate learning

1. Choosing a type of evaluation and the practical modalities adapted to an objective

2. Conducting the evaluation

3. Correcting and providing an efficient feedback to the learner in relation with the objective

4. Preparing a learner for an exam

E8: Pilot, shape and reshape the training

1. Separating in clear steps the learning contents (initial and on-going scenario )

2. Organising and adjusting if necessary the rhythm of the learning

A. Evaluating the progress of learners through feedbacks

B. Making choice of activity in order to adjust the rhythm (using didactic or pedagogical elements)

C. Adjusting actually the activities (by using the difficulties encountered or by segmenting or by individualising the activity)

3. Ensuring that learners give meaning to their learning

4. Associating or delegating to the learners the piloting of a part of the activity (logic of learner empowerment and co-piloting)
